Metropolitan
Minority Outreach (MMO) is a nonprofit, all-volunteer organization founded
in 1986. MMO's original goal was to increase the number of Twin Cities
minority candidates for employment within the information systems field. |
Today, MMO focuses on
developing the resource pool of skilled qualified candidates from the Minnesota
minority communities for employment opportunities in the Twin Cities area.
In order to achieve this goal, MMO is:
- Providing role models
(mentors)
- Promoting self confidence,
awareness and pride.
- Enhancing student opportunities
for hands on experience.
- Encouraging students
to maximize educational opportunities.
- Increasing minority
enrollment in college degree and vocational technical training programs.
- Expanding methods for
students to increase awareness of and explore viable careers paths.
- Developing networks
and relationships with recruiting sources for candidates from the Minnesota
minority population.
The MMO board is thankful
for the opportunities to expand our working relationships with the St. Paul
Public Schools Multicultural Excellence Program (MEP) and the new Florida
A&M Computer Information Systems Outreach program. We are extremely excited
about our new partnership with the Minneapolis Interdistrict Downtown School
and the creation of the Connections Count E-mentoring Program. Our new college
iniatives, have resulted brought about new partnerships with the University
of Minnesota and the College of St. Cathrine that should ensure success for
our college E-Mentoring/ Networking component. MMO is extremely proud and
grateful to have mentors and sponsors who freely give their time, talents,
energy, and resources - all in the interest of the students and making a difference
in our communities during these tough economic times.
